Happy Easter Monday, friends! I hope you had a safe, fun & excellent weekend!
With all of the April showers (or SNOW in our case…#CanadaProblems) lately, it can be hard to remember that spring brings a lot to the table! Here are some things to look forward to this season:
I don’t know about you, but my favourite part of spring is the fresh blooms! Everywhere from grocery stores, parks and even the streets are hit with both the fragrance of new growth and its gorgeous colours. After all, the saying “April showers brings May flowers” exists for a reason! Oh, and don’t forget about my personal favourite time of year, late May to late June…aka peony season! How could you not look forward to such a bloomin’ great sight!? 😉
A Work In Progress
YouTube sensation Connor Franta is releasing a book in just under two weeks and I, for one, could not be more excited! It’s weird because Connor is actually a year younger than me but I find him to be wise beyond his years and truly, truly funny. The book is going to be a recount of all of Connor’s life experiences so far and what lessons he’s learnt from them, plus Connor’s fantastic photography will be featured throughout the memoir. I’m really looking forward to seeing another side of Connor and learning a bit more about him. If you’re curious, you can pre-order the book now on chapters.indigo.ca, otherwise, it releases on April 21.
I love walks, but walks in springtime are my favourite. Walks not only clear your mind and your chest of any stress you may be going through, but they allow you to view things from a fresh perspective and observe the beauty around you. To me, there’s nothing better than an evening walk in spring; warmer weather, lighter layers and those sunsets! You really can’t go wrong.
I know, I know, this one is the deal-breaker, because few people actually look forward to spring cleaning, but hear me out. Winter is a long, dreary, cold time of the year, so most of us choose to stay indoors as much as possible. When the spring sunshine emerges, we feel like new human beings, given a new lease on life, so to speak. Until we look around. I don’t know if this is just my family and I, but do we ever borderline hoard a ton of crap in the winter. Papers & magazines we don’t need because we’ll never read them again. Piles of movies and TV DVDs that have a home. Don’t get me wrong, we are not messy people in the slightest (okay, maybe I’m messy, but my mother certainly is the opposite of that in every way), but something about the colder weather makes us lazier and therefore, we hoard, like having tons of stuff around us will keep us warmer (bizarre – and I’m sure subconscious – logic). Spring is a time for cleanliness and getting rid of the junk that accumulates with the winter blues. Clear your desk. Dust your furniture. Organize that pantry. Get to it, it’ll make you feel much, much better and as though the freshness of spring somehow burst through your home into every room. It’s a good feeling, I promise.
GAHHH! If you didn’t know already, Lilly Pulitzer is collaborating with the one and only Targé, and that magical collection releases on April 19! Yay! I’ve long been a fan of the Lilly Pulitzer brand and the preppy, sophisticated, colourful and feminine vibe it creates, but, let’s face it, her creations aren’t always the most practical for a student’s budget. However, bringing her creative genius to Target, well that works for everyone! I’m actually not sure if Target stores in Canada will offer this collection, given that they are closing all stores in our great nation (boo…still so sad), and when I’ve asked sales associates or even managers in my local stores, the answer is usually “I don’t know” or “I’m not sure,” but I’m hoping for the best, especially as the company announced that Canada would be included in the special release back in December. If not, I’m not fretting, guess my first road trip of the year will happen soon, this stuff is just too good to miss out on! Hello, US of A, it’s been awhile! 😉
Picnics in the Park
Believe it or not, I’ve never been on a picnic, but it’s never too late to start! Picnics always look so much fun, and the fact that you get to eat good food with good company and enjoy the outdoors sounds like a great idea to me (even with my not-so-favourite bees, ick!). In general, parks blossom with life in the spring season, both with trees, plants and flowers growing and with people and activities, so I’m getting geared up to spend some time in the sun (and after the winter we’ve had this year, we all deserve it!!).
Patio dining is simply the best. Male, female; young, old, in between, everyone loves a good meal on the patio. Be it a gourmet meal lit by candlelight just outside a swanky restaurant, or some burgers and fries in your backyard, you can’t beat a meal in the warm breeze of the spring season. Plus, eating on patios usually includes sippin’ on the season’s trendiest or the cult classic spring and summer cocktails, so you won’t hear me complaining anytime soon. Oh, and guess what else patio season means? We’re one step close to bikini weather (not that I wear bikinis myself, but…you know)! 😉 😀
While in bigger cities, there are select farmer’s markets that run year round, quaint, local farmer’s markets begin in the warmer weather, and boy, am I excited! There’s nothing better than picking up some fresh, locally grown and sometimes cheaper produce, and knowing that it comes from home makes it all that much more enjoyable. With salads and seasonal vegetables and herbs growing in popularity and use in the warmer months, it’s nice to know you can pick up some from your favourite stand every week without fail. Look out, strawberries, I’m coming for you!
As you can see, there’s lots to look forward to this season! Instead of getting hung-up on the negative, like having to plant all of those flowers in your garden or how many times it’ll rain in the next month or two, focus on the positive! There’s so much fun to be had in this lovely season and just think how pretty those lovely flowers (I hope they’re peonies! ;)) will look as they start to bloom! Here’s to the spring joy! 🙂
What are you looking forward to for spring?
