So, it’s August (how the HELL did that happen!?), and do you know what that means? That’s right, folks, that time of year has come around again. You know, the days start and end on a chillier note, the mornings get darker and the evenings get shorter. Almost every commercial you see on TV has something to do with the three words that anyone under the age of 23 dreads, “Back-to-School.” Now, don’t get me wrong, I love school, and I love learning new things everyday, but when I hear those three words right next to each other, the first thing that springs to mind is “Summer’s Over!”
I don’t think that August is a bad month at all…the weather [usually] stays pretty darn hot throughout the day, and you get those classic breezy-but-comfortable summer evenings. However, if you live where I do, you might feel a little resentful of August this year, or at least I do. You see, my area basically didn’t get a summer this year. The first two months of what is usually blistering heat and looonnnggg sunny days were replaced by constant rain. We even had a couple of flash floods in the area at the beginning of July, resulting in power outages and emergency situations all over the place (but don’t worry, most people are fine now). Then, we went straight into what it is now, which is– for the lack of another word, BLEH. I don’t think that we have had a single day reach the high 30’s since the middle of July, and that was only for a couple of days. I hope that August picks up, because as it stands now, it feels a lot more like October 1 than August 1 (brrrrr, bring on the Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbs).
Anywho, that’s enough of being “Negative Nelly.” I’ve always been a “Positive Polly,” and there is no reason that that should change now. To be honest, I usually look forward to August. As, yes, it is like the last breath of summer, HOWEVER, summer isn’t truly over yet. Technically, summer isn’t over until September 22, but most people attribute Labour Day Weekend (August 31 – September 2) to the unofficial end of summer. But, people, that’s like, 4 and a bit weeks away! There’s much that we can do before those breezy summer nights turn into chilly autumn mornings.
It’s time to cross those final items off of your summer bucket list and enjoy what is left of summer! 🙂 Pretty soon, life will return to the normal grind and we won’t have that “It’s summer, I can do ANYTHING” rush, so do what you want while you still can! 😀 Another good thing about August is that many cities around the world have summer festivals (outdoor and indoor) that you can attend. This is good for the people that want to do something fun and exhilarating but don’t know what exactly to do. These activities are usually pretty cheap and are super fun (memories are SURE to be in the making), so, really? How can you go wrong? I know that my hometown kicks off August with a bang every year with a celebration of the Caribbean islands, and goes strong until the middle of September with a couple of different wing/rib-“fests” and a big, general exhibition. There’s also a couple of good movies coming out this month, plus you can always do classic summer things like head to the beach or have a picnic. There’s always some fun to be had, especially in August! I almost treat August as if it’s my final month on Earth (dramatic but true). What would you do if you only had a month left to enjoy? I wouldn’t even know where to begin! It’s easy to sit at home all day on an August day and get sad about August and the doom of the end of summer. It’s quite a slump, I know, I was in one yesterday. But, trust me, if you get off the couch, and do something, I guarantee you’ll be glad you did. J
On another note, I know I’ve been neglecting Beauty Bylaws for the last couple of months (with only ONE post in July… :O), but I hope to change that in the month of August. I have so many ideas in my head for posts, that, honestly, it gets a little overwhelming at times. But, at the end of the day, the only way to get over the mild panic attack I go into whenever I think about my blog is to… yup, you guessed it, put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard in this case). I have so many exciting things that I would like to share, but first, I need to catch up on the posts that I thought about doing in the summertime! This won’t be easy, as I am still working full-time, and because it’s summer, I have quite the hectic social life, with various BBQs and parties to attend. However, I am, quite frankly, tired of putting this blog on the back burner. I feel like I say that a lot, and it’s true, I’m a crappy person when it comes to keeping it all under control and sticking to a consistent schedule. Having said that, though, blogging is something I truly, truly, deeply enjoy, and I fully intend to change. I am passionate about beauty, and I love to interact with you through this blog and my YouTube channel. So, no more Ms. Slacker; say hello, Ms. I-Can-Do-It! My posts will be a little sporadic in the beginning, but I assure you, they will regulate by the middle of September.
