Hello, hello friends! Apologies for my sudden absence this week, I had a test on Thursday that I really wanted to study hard for and didn’t plan my time earlier in the week very well. And then…just when my test was over (it went quite well, but only time will tell the real results!) and things were resuming as normal, I fell and sprained my elbow. #doh #SiobhanisaKOOKYKLUTZ
I still need to get it tested further this upcoming week, but so far, my family, the doctor I’ve seen and I think that it’s a grade 2 sprain which means that it should heal within about 2 weeks (and I get to wear a chic scarf around it to accelerate the healing process)! YAY! It has been torture, though, as it still hurts A LOT and I’m having to learn to do things that I take advantage of ordinarily differently, as to not distrupt or put too much weight or resistance on my elbow. Plus, to make things worse, this happened to the elbow on my right side, which, you guessed it, is my dominant arm. I just have to let nature and my body work its magic and let the healing begin (though it’s hard, apparently anything I do wrong like twisting in the wrong direction can upset the process…BOO).
The good news is, I’m refusing to let this stupid elbow of mine disrupt my life in any way, including writing posts as normal (I actually have a busy and exciting week planned for the bylaws! :)) or putting some makeup on my face. Heck no! If you’ve read my latest post about my current beauty wants, you’d know that I’ve been so excited to see Disney’s live action version of Cinderella, which hit theatres yesterday. She’s always been my favourite princess and it’s always been my favourite story of the “fairy tale classics,” so I’ve been literally counting down the days to when I could see it. Well, folks, that magical day was today (or I guess technically last night as I’m writing this at 1 am…and SURPRISE! A full review of the movie will be up tomorrow! #switchingthingsup) and like any true Cinders fan, I was decked in powder blue and even did a special look to reflect my adoration of the ethereal princess. Last minute, it dawned on me that a special makeup look is really not so special if it’s not shared! 😉 So, here you have it, friends, a super quick but fun look for all of you fellow Cinderella fans (or themed makeup lovers)! 🙂
As the day wasn’t completely about Cinderella (although some may beg to differ — aka ME), I didn’t want my Cinderella theme to hinder my look. Having said that, I still wanted it to be fairly obvious that I was lending my support, or I guess you could say my face, to Ella’s cause, so I opted for neutral eyes with a pop of light blue. I actually really like that blue is Cinderella’s colour, as it’s feminine but not over the top and I think it works well with my complexion. When paired with the blue sweater that I wore today, I think the whole look encapsulates Cinder’s vibe perfectly.
I opted for subtle gold tones over more pearly, luminous ones, mainly because it was the secondary colour on the MAC Cinderella collection packaging and I think it depicts the lavishness of the world that Ella so badly wants to be a part of but cannot (how’s THAT for reading too much into highlighter!? ;)). I also did not shy away from shimmer and sparkle of any kind because, hello, have you seen Ella’s ball gown!? The thing drips of glamorous extravagance (in the best way)!

Bare Minerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener in Luminous 4
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (because there is no such thing as too much concealer when you’ve been up most of the night with elbow pain)

MAC Powder Blush in Blunt (to set the cream contour)
Clinique Soft Pressed Powder Blusher in New Clover*
Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Constant Copper* (though these do not exactly work wonders on my lids, I really like using this a subtle highlight on my face, under my brows and in the inner corner of my eyes, and today was no exception! Subtle but beautiful golden glow? Check!)

Maybelline Colour Whisper in Rose of Attraction (such a pretty and sheer light pink, perfect to channel Ella’s pout!)
MAC Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks
This obviously isn’t makeup but I thought I’d throw it in for fun anyway. I wore Midnight Fantasy by Britney Spears today because – duh! The clock strikes at midnight (and look, the bottle’s blue, it fits right in)!! 🙂
Overall, this enchanted look was really fun to sport for the day and the application process really built my excitement for the main event. I love wearing coloured eyeliner as a quick and simple way to transform a look from boring and basic to fun and lively, and wearing an unexpected pop of blue made channelling Cinderella much easier. Not many people would think of wearing theme makeup to a movie (LOLs, #lonelyisland), but making the theme a subtle one makes it easier to wear for average activities like grocery shopping or picking up the dry cleaning, all while still allowing some expression of creativity without any harsh or judgemental looks. In other words, it’s kind of the perfect way to kill two birds with one makeup stone. 😉 #booya
As aforementioned, stay tuned for my review of the movie tomorrow!
