First off, Happy Family Day to all of my Canadian readers and Happy President’s Day to my American ones! I hope you have a great day! <3
As you may or may not know, I am borderline obsessed with all things media. Growing up, I was always known as the movie girl, as I knew what most people were talking about when they talked about various movies, whether they were an adult or a child, and could even quote them lines from the movie. However, it is not just movies that I love. I absolutely adore television shows, magazines, books, video games, most kinds of music, listening to the radio, and I’m almost always on the internet in some shape or form. When I decided to create my own website, I thought maybe I’d share the things in the media that I’m loving at the moment. At first, I thought I should focus on one kind of media and discuss what I’m loving in that category. However, I thought more about it and I thought that wouldn’t be much fun. So, I’m going to highlight the things that I’ve been loving across the spectrum. Sometimes it may be the magazines and radio talk shows I like, whereas, other times it may be the music and TV I like. You savvy (does anyone get the reference I just made?)? 🙂

There are only three movies that I want to see right now, which, believe it or not, is actually pretty rare for me. I usually want to see a good 5 or 6 movies that are out but, February is usually the slow month, as many of the appealing movies tend to come out in late spring or early summer. I really want to see “This Means War” with Reese Witherspoon, who is actually one of my favourite actresses of all time. It also stars Chris Pine, and he is so talented and very good looking. I actually remember his first major role in a movie, he starred in “Just My Luck” with Lindsay Lohan as her love interest. And look how far he has come now!?
I would also enjoy seeing “The Vow”, as I love both Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Channing actually stars in one of, if not, my favourite movie of all time, “She’s The Man”. Such a fantastic movie! Ever since that movie, I have been a fan. The last movie I want to see relates to something else that I’ll mention in this post, and I don’t really want to spoil the surprise, so I’ll leave that until the end 🙂
I wouldn’t mind seeing “Journey 2”, but I don’t want to see it so badly that I am willing to spend anywhere from $9 – $14 on a movie ticket. No, that can definitely wait until it’s on DVD.
On DVD

If anyone knows where I can get this movie, please let me know! Thanks! Photo from here. |
Speaking of on DVD, I am an avid movie watcher at home. I am not exaggerating when I say I watch at least 2 a week, and whenever I am feeling down or low (movies are my main form of media that I love. Cannot live without). Lately, I’ve been really digging watching classic movies, and when I say classic, I don’t mean classic classic (I already had that phase over winter break, I watched all of the Audrey Hepburn movies I could find, not to mention “Casablanca” about 4 times). I mean classic in the sense that they are classics from my childhood, or just, movies that I want to see again. I watched “Cinderella”, one of my fave childhood/Disney movies, last night, but that did not satisfy my classic movie craving. I’m doing everything I can to find “Annie” in my local area, as well as “The Little Mermaid”. I don’t know what it is, but in the last two weeks or so, I’ve been dying to watch them again. I would watch them on VHS, as I still have a VHS player in the basement of my house, but my mom is a major clean freak, and threw them away about 4 years ago. 🙁 Some other movies I would enjoy seeing again are:
- Inception (love that movie, don’t care what anyone says)
- Avatar (why not?)
- Easy A (one of my faves)
- The Aristocats (another one of my faves)
- Die Hard (yippee-ki-yay…)
Television
I don’t know if it was just me, but there was a time, not so long ago, when I was seriously worried about TV. The shows they would produce were utter garbage, with no substance or sense behind them. Thankfully, good TV has made a comeback, and I’ll be the first one to say it! 🙂 Now, along with movies, TV is a very personal thing, as you might like different genres than I do. However, in the interest of full disclosure, I will share the shows that I have been loving as of late.

The first is “Castle”. Ohemgee. I don’t know what it is about season four, but it has been kicking the butt of almost every other show, and all of its seasons! It is by far my favourite TV show right now. I discovered it last year, when it would come on after Dancing w the Stars and I was too lazy to get out of my seat. I really liked it, and the connections the characters had to each other, so I watched all of the episodes from season 1 up until that point, so that I was caught up. I got so enthralled that it became a weekly regular to watch DWTS, and then Castle on a Monday night. By the time the third season was nearing to an end, I was in love with it. Let’s just say that I had a mixture of feelings about the season 3 finale, as it was truly impeccable TV, with good quality and a great story, but I was extremely angry at the ending; the cliffhanger! Thus, I counted down the days until it came back on and it has been getting better episode by episode, and last week’s episode was one of the best of the season. I am sooo excited for tonight’s episode and I, honestly, do not want this season to end.

If you watch my videos, you will see this coming and is basically inevitable, but the next show I am in love with is “Glee”. I have loved the show ever since I saw the show’s pilot, back three years ago. It is a brilliant show, with amazing actors/actresses, great plot-lines and even better performances. I have, and probably will always, love this show until the day that it stops, but this season in particular is just plain amazing. I know that a lot of the show’s fans aren’t really enjoying this season, but I think this is the best season yet. Such great character development and less pomp and circumstance than last season, which in this case, is good. I loved last season (and the first, of course), but looking back now, I can’t help but feel that the show lost a bit of it’s aim, it’s purpose. This season, though, the show has both the substance of the first season and a bit of the showiness of the last. Perfect glee concoction! 🙂

The next is “The Secret Circle”. I am in LOVE with this show! Honestly, here’s how it went down. I saw a trailer for it when watching Degrassi last season (another one of my tv loves but as it is not on right now, it’s not one of my obsessions), and I thought “oh, I have to watch that!”. But then I found out that it was created by the same person who wrote The Vampire Diaries, and I instantly lost interest. Alas, I still watched the first episode of the series and was instantly hooked, so much so that it has become my second favourite show! I just love the idea behind it, as I’ve always loved witches and magic and what not, and the actors/actresses on it are very talented. The show has great action with a hint of romantic theme balance, which is perfect for me. Also, this may be besides the point, but I love the makeup and fashion that the girls wear on the show and I pull a lot of inspiration from that. When you consider those three points, with the fact that the show gets better per episode, its fantastic! This show definitely has the Siobhan stamp of approval!

The last is “Smash”, the new show on NBC. There have only been two episodes to date, so I don’t know much about the show but so far, so great! I really like the premise of the show and I am an avid fan of Katharine McPhee. She is so beautiful and talented, and gives the show the freshness, so to speak, that it needs. I was scared that it was going to be just like Glee, but it isn’t at all! I really like it and I hope it continues on the same awesome path!

Magazines and Books
Okay, so I know that this is getting long, but this is the last category, I promise.

The February Edition, which is the one I picked up. Photo is from here. |
So, I really like a lot of magazines, but I was really, really early for an appointment the other day and there was, luckily, a pharmacy downstairs, so I wandered in to look at and/or buy a magazine. I picked “Allure”, which is a magazine that I’d never read before. Within about 20 minutes, I’d decided that it was my favourite magazine, aside from “Seventeen”. Yep, I like it that much! It’s basically all about beauty (with a little hint of fashion and health thrown in the mix), which is basically what I live for (sad, but true). I really liked the way that the magazine was composed and written, and as I write this, its sitting on my bedside table, ready for me to read it for the 20th time.
The last obsession I’ve had as of late, is a book. A book that is pure amazing. It had me hooked from about the 3rd chapter. I love the characters, the plot, the romanticism, the action; I love it all. I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m very close to the end and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. What’s the name of this book? The Hunger Games. I honestly didn’t believe people when they told me that this book was amazing and that I need to read it soon. However, after a LOT of peer pressure, I decided to pick it up on Friday. I started it yesterday and am currently in the middle of part 3. I probably sat and read for about 6 or 7 hours straight (I’m a slow reader), I was so into it. I literally haven’t done that with a book since I read “When Lightning Strikes”, by Meg Cabot. I simply cannot put into words how fantastic this book is, and it’s pretty close to putting Twilight to shame. I cannot wait for the movie to come out on March 23rd (which is another reason I bought it; I wanted to read it before the movie came out)! I will definitely be seeing that, probably on the first weekend. I totally recommend this book to anyone who wants a good book to read!

So, there you have it. The media things that I have been ooh-ing and ahh-ing over lately. Please let me know how often you would like to see these kinds of posts and if you think they should be called “Media Maven” or “Queen of All Media”. I truly, sincerely hope you enjoyed this post!
Au revoir!

ps – so did you get that the “savvy” reference was something that Jack Sparrow said in “Pirates of the Caribbean” numerous times? No? Am I the only nerd in this community? Awkward…
