It’s been a full month since I last hit the publish button on the ol’ bylaws, and I think it’s time for a comeback. You know, a resurgence, ressurection, renewal; a return, if you will. Yes, life is busy and hectic and crazy and mad, but isn’t that what makes it so awesome!? We would all be very boring people if we didn’t have plenty of things to occupy our days, and hey, they all make for lovely stories down the line. Yes, it’s true, you may think that doing mundane things like walking your dog or going to the grocery store are boring, simple things but have you ever considered this? What you do in your day may seem totally foreign to someone else, and vice versa, and that’s the fun part! To me, the chats I have with the security guard in my office every morning around 6 am seem totally normal, but to someone whom I’ve never met before, that may seem totally strange. Then, there’s also the simple truth of, sometimes your normal, almost mechanical routine could simply, not be. Your commute into work or school could take three times as long because of traffic. Or, say, you could bump into a childhood friend at the dry cleaners. Sure, it might be random, it might be odd, hey, it might even just be plain inconvenient, but at least it’s something different, something that you’ll probably share with friends and family and could even turn into an anecdote. My point is, life throws the unexpected at us everyday, and, speaking for myself, the busier we are, the more caught up in the “busyness” we get, but sometimes, it’s nice to be busy. Social interaction is something that is so important for us here on Earth, and so much of that interaction is us sharing stories from our day, and just think about it, we wouldn’t have any stories to tell if we weren’t busy at all, would we? 😉
With that being said, today I’m going to share a few photos, a few stories and a few things that have just made me happy in all of my busyness since I last wrote an article. I honestly, truly deem each and every one of my readers as one of my friends, and dude, it’s been a while, so this is going to be like one great, (hopefully not too) big catch-up. So, pull up a seat, grab a libation of your choice (I’m sippin’ on some iced coffee as I write this and it is delicioso!), and get comfy. Here we go! 🙂

A few interesting things that have happened to me and/or in my life in the last month or so are as follows:
Well, first, I’m now 24…wha!? Where does the time go!? For my 24th birthday on June 26, I was lucky enough to spend a weekend away in Ottawa, and let me tell you, it’s such a lovely city! It’s the nation’s capital and I’d only ever been once, when I was about 7 or 8, so it was time for a redo. I had tons of fun over the weekend but I’ve gotta say that my two highlights were being treated to breakfast in bed at our über swanky hotel (see! I told you I was a lucky girl!) and seeing Parliment in person on a tour that we did. It was a lot of fun and it’s really cool to see how the government works up there! 😉
Plus, our trip to Ottawa offered a lot more than just birthday shenanigans; despite being a pretty small, quiet city, Ottawa had sooo many beautiful monuments and buildings to look at…
…unexpected beauty around every corner…
…and don’t even get me started on the incredible food I had that weekend!
Oh, and did I mention I had my first Nordstrom experience at the Rideau Center? 😀
Overall, during and after our trip to Ottawa, I was one happy camper. 🙂
Moving on to the next weekend, my family and I were going about our usual Saturday morning business when suddenly, the doorbell rang. Instead of it being a parcel or anything, you know, ordinary, it was my favourite uncle & aunt who had been doing a bit of a world tour, and they came to visit and stay with us! What a lovely surprise!
I must say, I loved having my uncle and aunt here (such great company) and thought we embarked on many fun, lovely adventures like golfing, bowling, sailing, macaron tasting, etc., I’d have to say one of my favourite things was taking them to the local pool. My uncle and aunt are quite active people, so we, as a family, always get a little more “sporty” when they visit, but for more reasons than one, pool day was my standout favourite. It was one of those days that was just so much fun, and I’m sure that there will be stories told in our huge family around the world from that day. The very definition of good times. 🙂
After a very sad goodbye after two lovely weeks of awesome company, our world continued as normal. I feel the need to mention that one of the biggest things to happen in the last month was going to see my husband live on tour. You didn’t know I was married? Oh, don’t worry, a lot of people don’t, including my husband. That’s right, the current star of all my daydreams/whimsical romantic fantasies and (hopefully) my future husband, 5-time Dancing With The Stars finalist and Emmy-winning choreographer Derek Hough was in the Toronto area for just two short nights with his sister, Julianne Hough for their annual Move: Live on Tour shows. I didn’t get the chance to go last year, mainly because of how poorly it was (or should I say wasn’t) advertised, so this year, I knew I couldn’t miss it. Thankfully, my mom is one of the most awesome individuals on the planet and bought us two tickets when I was down on money earlier this year (and I’ve since paid her back, don’t you worry :P).
Now, a combination of things happened on the night we went to see the show, a) after lots of debate as I rushed home from work and practically stormed my mom out the door, I (stupidly) decided to leave my DSLR at home (GRRR!). You see, I’d had a hand at photographing a monumental event in my life once or twice (or a trillion times) before, and I hadn’t ever really felt like I fully experienced these events when I had. Also, I had never been to Casino Rama before and I didn’t know what the set-up/safety was like, and seeing as I love my Canon Rebel t5i like some people love their children, I decided it wasn’t worth the risk…
…which was basically, one of the worst decisions of my life because my point-and-shoot reminded me within about 30 seconds of using it why I hate using it and begged for a DSLR for essentially all of last year. In other words, it definitely under-performed and I’m sad to say, I didn’t get many good photos 🙁 That’s somewhat okay though, because the second thing that happened as we watched the show, or b) if you were wondering what happened to that list (ahha), was I spent the majority of the show jumping, dancing and screaming. Oh no, the show was good, but my husband was much better 😛 Derek Hough (fiiinnnneeee, his sister, too) is a born entertainer and the duo are both such excellent dancers, that the time we were there literally flew by and made the 2 hour and 45 minute drive there and back totally worth it. If they bring the show back to my ‘hood next year, I promise, I will go (DUH!) and I’ll bring my DSLR, but for now, enjoy the slightly (okay, very) shoddy photos that were taken on the day…
(if you’re wondering, yes, the only thing that could have made my night better is if they actually came out to meet the audience, but a) that probably would have taken like, 6 hours to do [the audience was HUGE] and b) I actually don’t think my heart would have been able to cope. I might have legitimately fainted and woken up in hospital, so a little part of me is glad they didn’t ;P)
There was dancing (lots of contemporary, some latin dances, some jazz, a waltz and a tap dance (!!)), there was singing, there was crying, there were tons of laughter, there was even a section of motivational speeches and a call for passion in everything you do; yes, folks this show had it all. It was one hell of a night and I loved every minute! By the way, if you want to see some truly great shots of what a typical Move: Live on Tour show looks like, check out Stephanie DeFranco’s snaps here, they’re lovely and truly capture the vibe of the night: fun! 🙂 If you can still grab tickets to any of the shows if they’re playing in your city, I highly, highly recommend. Yes, I was tired the next day at work having only got about 4 horus of sleep the night before, but trust me when I say, it was well worth it and if given the chance to do it all over again (with better seats, mind you), my answer is simple: HECK YES! 😀 ♥ #loveyouDerek (couldn’t end that without a little message to my love, could I!? 😛 )
As for the rest of the month, it was pretty standard. I’ve been doing a lot of eating out (and if you follow me on Instagram, you can attest to this), but hey, it’s summer, and what’s summer for if not to socialize like it’s your last moment on Earth and eat like you’ve never seen food before!? 😛 Especially as I live in a very seasonal country, meaning it gets very hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter, I’ve learned that I have to make the most of the social events that I’m invited to and/or host throughout the summer, because once November rolls around, most of us in chilly ol’ Canada huddle up by the fire and don’t see daybreak again until May. 😉 That being said, if you are interested in seeing exactly what food I’ve been eating and what I’ve been up to in the last week or two, feel free to follow me on Instagram or Twitter @beautybylaws! 🙂 Oh, and before I forget, I got a snapchat! 😀 I’ve been asked to get one for a while, and the other day, I said “darn it! Why not!?” and took the plunge. I have to admit, I’m still getting used to it (read: I’m gettin’ on now and I might have finally hit the age where I have no idea what all the young folk are doing AKA – I can’t seem to figure it out), but I’m getting there! 🙂 My username is ‘beautybylaws’ and please feel free to follow along for behind-the-scenes scoop and more “day in the life” stuff!
