(Try saying that 5 times fast ;))
Heyooo! How’s it going, friend?
As you can see above, today I’m going to be trying something new. To me, a new year is all about trying new things and taking risks. If they work out, great. If they don’t, at least you stepped out of your comfort zone, even just a little bit. This isn’t a super big risk, as it’s not like I’m going to be reading for the first time or anything, and I did mention in one of my very first posts that this blog, while called Beauty Bylaws, isn’t going to be focused on JUST beauty, but it’s risky enough.
So, I’m starting a book club. I honestly don’t know if any of you are interested or will even read this post. But, if you like to read and you want a safe, fun place to chat and share your thoughts about different books, here’s your chance! I’m someone who doesn’t read every single day, but I try to find the time at least a couple of times a week to get lost in a book. I’ve always loved reading, there’s just something so special about becoming engrossed in a fictitious world and getting so connected to a character that you feel like you are friends with them. Reading is something important, and frankly, I don’t think it’s stressed enough to the younger generation how much it can add to your life. So, young or old, girl or boy, I want to create a place where you and your friends, and myself, can come to talk about what you are reading! 🙂
My favourite genres are teen (even though I hate that they call it that, being a twenty two year old) and mystery, so the books that I will choose will, more often than not, be from one of those two categories. However, feel free to skip the book or read a book of your choosing, just don’t forget to keep us updated in the comments! 🙂 Also, I was lucky enough to get a Sony eReader for Christmas this year (thank you so much Mom & Dad! :D), so all of the books chosen for the Beyond the Bylaws Book Club will be available both in the original format and electronic format. Just so you know 😉

LOL, okay, maybe I’m being slightly dramatic there, but they are definitely usually shocked. I don’t know much of what this book is about, but judging on what I know now that I’ve read the synopsis, it’s fairly similar to the Hunger Games (think Dystopian mixed with a bit of science fiction). I have been tempted to read this book before, because I’ve heard really good things (even the impossible “It’s better than the Hunger Games” — which, at this point, I HIGHLY doubt), but I haven’t gotten around to it. That is, until now! Yay! The book has also been made into a movie due to come out in March starring *ugh* Shailene Woodley (who I think is easily one of the most overrated young actresses in Hollywood — honestly, she can’t act for beans!) and Theo James (who played a fairly important…lingering character in Downton Abbey Season 1 and he was AWESOME! I expect good things!). Other notable actors in the film are Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Ashley Judd and the incomparable Kate Winslet. Currently, I’m not too fussed on whether I see the movie or not, but that might change after reading the book. If I DO see the movie, it will be for Kate Winslet and Maggie Q, definitely not for Shailene (I just had to throw that in here ;P). I’m not a fan of seeing a movie without first reading the book, either, so that’s why I decided to pick this book as the first in the club! 🙂
As of right now, I plan to write little tidbits of my thoughts in various posts throughout the month, with a couple of posts dedicated solely to the subject, and then I will do one “conclusion” style post letting you know what my overall thoughts were, if I’d recommend to friends and if I’d continue the series. I urge you to join in the conversation on any of my posts, letting me know if you’re liking it, if you’d like to see the movie, etc. The whole point of this club is to start a conversation about one of the world’s best hobbies, reading! 🙂
I hope that you enjoyed this post and are excited to embark on our little scholarly adventure, because I know I am! 🙂
And oh! I almost forgot! You can always start a conversation with me via any of my social networks (listed in the sidebar, above the search box —->), but I’m most reachable at my email and twitter. So, if you aren’t comfortable with commenting on here, feel free to email me at siobhan@beautybylaws.com or tweet me @siobhanchloex0x with the hashtag #beyondthebylawsbookclub or #divergent! I’d love to know how you’re progressing with the book! 🙂
With that, I’m going to go and make a cup of tea, snuggle up with le kitty (isn’t my French excellent ;P) and start reading! Woohoo!
Much love,
S♥
