So it’s that time of year again…
The time when every drugstore cosmetics brand decides to go crazy with product releases. Being a makeup obsessed young lady, it is my duty (haha) to know about a lot, if not, all, of these new products and to check ’em out. However, due to the fact that, this year, the brands released TONS of foundations and a few other products, I didn’t pick up many of these new releases because I rarely wear foundation.
Nevertheless, you will soon find out that one of my favourite makeup categories, if not, my favourite, is blush. Thus, when I saw that Maybelline was releasing a new line of “bouncy” blushes, I instantly felt compelled to stand in my local Shoppers Drug Mart for hours on end, looking at and swatching the various blushes and picking the right ones for me (you’d be surprised at how often I do that…is that sad? :|)

Believe it or not, these blushes are relatively popular and were actually pretty hard to find. Whenever I did see them in a store, they were either all sold out or only the lightest colours were left standing. But, one day, I just happened to be in a drugstore that I don’t usually go to, and low and behold! I found a few that were pretty enough for me to take home with me (I paid for them first, obviously, I am no thief :P)! I ended up picking up two colours, one in colour #50, “Plum Wine” and the other in colour #20, “Peach Satin”.
Plum Wine’s name suggests that it is a plummy purple colour, and it even looks like that in the pot, however, on my skin, it is a very wearable, beautiful dark pink colour with a hint of purple.
On the other hand, Peach Satin’s name suggests that it’s a peach colour, but on my skin it is a light orange colour. Call me colourblind but I do not see any peach tones. On a lighter skin tone to mine, maybe it would look more peach, but on me, definately not. It is a gorgeous colour, but as I am so dark and the blush is so light (it’s crazy to think that this particular one is one of the darkest of the 10 in the line), it was a bit of a disappointment to me.

Now onto how it feels. I have to say, Maybelline did not lie. This blush literally bounces when you touch it. Think of a bouncy ball or a stress ball, but cut in half and sitting in a pot. What’s more is it feels light on the cheeks, unbelievably so. I can honestly say that I didn’t even feel like I had blush on. I really like that, because some cream blushes feel really heavy on the cheek. Also, one can create a variety of opacity levels with this blush. If you were to just press your finger in once or twice, you get a sheerer colour, whereas if you were to rub your finger in a little, you get a more opaque colour.

In terms of wear, the blush lasted about 3.5 – 4 hours, which is average in my books, but really isn’t that bad when compared to what the level of wear you can get with other blushes of similar price range.
Overall, I do like these blushes. I think they are pretty good quality for a product that costs less than ten dollars (7.99). Also, I like the fact that they bounce, it makes applying your blush fun, if you will. I am pleased with the colours that I chose, as Plum Wine is such a pretty colour that I have been wearing a lot lately and Peach Satin is, likewise, a beautiful colour, I’ll just have to layer a powder blush of similar colour on top. I do not mind that, but if you are someone who applies their makeup in a rush or on the go, it might cause problems.
There is only one thing that I do not like, which isn’t even about the actual blushes themselves, and that is the colour selection. Considering that there are ten blushes offered in the Dream Bouncy line, there should be some darker colours added for the darker skinned consumer. Someone needs to tell Maybelline that the world is a multicultural place now, and that light-skinned people aren’t their only customers. -.-
Okay, okay, to get back to the point, if I had to give these blushes a rating, I’d give them a 8/10. They lost two points because of the colour choices (or should I say, lack thereof) and I honestly think that the longevity of wear time could be a bit better. Other than that, Maybelline has done well!
Have you tried any of these blushes? What did you think? Did you like this review? Is there anything I could improve on? Let me know in the comments down below!
