Good afternoon friends, happy Monday AND November to you! I know this is basically the most cliché thing on the planet to say, but I’m going to say it anyway – WOWZA, did October fly by or what?! I can’t believe that it is already the second to last month of 2015; this year has been such a different, exciting and somewhat weird (in a good way) one for me. Without getting too mushy, I must confess that I will be sad to see 2015 leave us, but I am very excited and hopeful for what 2016 has on the horizon! Anyways, as I didn’t mean for this to become a reflective write-up about what this year has meant to me (especially as we still have two whole months left of it :D), I’ll change the subject, shall I?
Anyone who knows me knows that in the past 9 months, I’ve grown especially fond of a little social network called Instagram. Something about the fact that we can all connect over photographs shared sits well with me, and as my interest and passion for photography grows, I’m becoming more and more invested in it. Most Instagram users share peeks into the special or momentous aspects of their lives, whereas I offer a little bit of everything in my life, from snapshots of meals that I eat and places I go, to makeup & clothes I wear and things I’m doing. Plus, as my Instagram account is named after this website, I keep my followers informed on the latest and greatest #BeautyBylaws endeavours (but, of course, dahling! ;)).
As the second week of October approached though, I decided to get a bit creative and step out of my comfort zone. I wanted to share the same content, with the same style of photography, but mix things up a little. After a short brainstorming session, an idea struck me; my motto is #liveincolour, as I truly do believe that adding a splash of bright, powerful colours that mean something to you can do wonders for your outlook on life and boost creativity, productivity and positivity. While you could certainly see from a glance that my Instagram’s “theme” was keeping things white, clean and simple with lots of splashes of colour, I thought it was time to think outside the box with the concept of colour. When I think of October, the colour orange pops into my head, partly because I have mild synesthesia, and partly because I can’t walk outside my doors without somehow seeing or experiencing the colour throughout the month. Think about it, pumpkins, candy corn, leaves on trees going from vivid green to autumnal orange…it’s literally everywhere. While I’m not actually the biggest fan of the colour orange, I think when it’s mixed with heavy doses of white, black and grey, it can be beautiful. And so, I bring you some of my favourite snaps taken in October, the first in my little experiment with colour and themes, through the eyes of an Instagram follower…

October was #BreastCancerAwareness month, so I started the month with the intention of helping spread awareness in my own little way, and guess what!? This is my most liked photo on Instagram, EVER, so mission accomplished. Tom Cruise/Ethan Hunt would be so proud. 😉 ♥

I spent an afternoon in a gorgeous park just west of the city with my family, snapping photos and maybe shooting a Fashion Friday that you may see soon on the bylaws. 😉 It was a lovely day and this was my favourite shot; I just love what Autumn does to trees!

I always procrastinate when it comes to cleaning my heinous pile of makeup brushes, but I finally tackled it and JUST LOOK at this GORGEOUS pile of CLEAN brushes! Awww, man, it’s so nice to see them spick and span! 🙂

As you can probably tell from the two photos above, I started out this new colour trial quite aggressively, with bright orange in EVERY photo. It soon became the focus of my photo feed, but I wanted to take a more laid-back approach, finding hints of orange in the everyday rather than shoving it in everyone’s face. This rack of my favourite pieces for the season does that expertly, if I do say so myself… 😉

Continuing on the note above, look…even my favourite seasonal tea has orange in it! I’m all about #PumpkinChai tea from David’s Tea, in fact, I might even be sippin’ it as I write this now… 🙂

Part of the reason that I have been quiet on #BeautyBylaws lately is because I’m working hard on a project I hope to share with you very soon. As I entered my last “phase” of research. I thought I’d share this oh-so-appropriate snap… #orangegalore #eveninthebeautyworld

Life is tough, no doubt about it, but I believe that sometimes, all you need to tackle the world is a slight shift in perspective… 🙂

I may be too old to trick or treat, but I’m certainly not too old to enjoy some sweet treats come the eve of November! Oh, and in case you weren’t quite sure on where I stand with pumpkins, count how many pumpkins there are in this photo, LOL! There’s a reason why I captioned this “pumpkinception” on my Instagram… 😂

Strangely enough, I’m not and never really have been someone who goes all out for Halloween. This year, I decided not to dress up in a costume, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t dress up at all! I gathered some of my friends and went out to dinner, and this photo reflects the outfit I chose to wear (sans leggings to prevent myself from FREEZING on the last chilly day of October!). This rose gold/copper skirt might not be orange per se, but it’s my little way of saying adieu to my orange theme of the month and saying hello to the holiday season! YIPEE! 😀
Well, there you have it folks, a select few of the plethora of photos I shared last month. Overall, I’m quite pleased with how it turned out, I just wish I’d started it on the first of the month! Having said that, I think having just come off of a quite bright and in-your-face colour for the month of October, I’m going to keep this month’s theme a bit more reserved. I’m going to go back a little bit to my roots, weaving and incorporating neutral tones back into my photos, with major hints of grey, beige and golden brown thrown in. I’m sure that sounds like I’m reverting to my old style and not sticking to my experiment with colour, but if all goes to plan and my photos/feed turn out how I’ve envisioned, you’ll soon see what I mean. 🙂 Not to worry, though, if you’re a fan of the brighter, more intense colours splashed all over the Beauty Bylaws Instagram page, you may just be in luck come next month (think holiday colours… :D). Curious to see how long this experiment can last and/or how it works out? There’s only one way to keep up with me and see things unfold as it happens: click the follow button! 😉 ♥
So, what about you, friend, are you on Instagram? I highly recommend getting an account, even if you have no intention on posting, as it’s a great network to be a part of, with constant photographs to visually please and inspire you. If you do have a feed, do you stick to a particular “theme,” or do you post photos that make you happy in the moment, “motifs” and “rules” be damned? Share your accounts below, I’d love to check them out! 🙂
Until next time,
S♥
