The start of a new month means many, many things to people; time to pay rent and other bills for some, time for a new film or book to reflect on for those in monthly clubs, and for most, time to plan ahead and/or see what the new month has in store. But, let’s be real for a sec: I’m a beauty lover, hoarder, blogger, first and foremost, and while I should be doing all of the above as October edges its way in, the first thing on my mind is makeup (naturally). Now, if you’ve been around for a while here at the bylaws, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of lipsticks and lip glosses, and that I believe in the power of the tube and/or using different colours to completely change up one’s look. As it is October, the forecast calls for crisp fall days and bright orange, amber and red leaves crunching beneath our feet, and thus, I wanted my lipstick to reflect the change in weather and mood! #sweaterweather #hooray
So, let’s have a look at the lipsticks I’ve been wearing more and more of lately and what lipsticks will be sticking around for the rest of the month, shall we!? 🙂
Lipstick Número Uno: Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Strawberry 🍓($25 CAD, available at Sephora) *
There’s not really much to say about this lipstick other than one word: STUNNING. This has got to be one of my favourite “discoveries” of the year, with a reasonable price tag, a powerful punch in the pigmentation department and a great consisitency, the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks are quickly becoming my favourite thing to wear on the lips (I just bought another one yesterday, but I’ll save that for another day ;)). Creamy, smooth and easy to apply, this lipstick has got it all, and just when you think that there’s nothing left to add, you’ll be blown away by the tremendous bright reddish pink hue this lipstick has. It’s my go-to red at the moment for a reason, and a hot red like this is perfect to transition into the season! 😉 Loveeeeee ♥
Lipstick Número Dos: MAC Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Taupe 🙊($20 CAD, available at MAC)
Finally, a matte nude shade I can actually wear AS A NUDE!!! It’s taken me ages to find a nude lip colour that suits my complexion and that is a matte shade, but now that I have, I couldn’t be more thrilled! There’s something about a simple nude lipstick that is so classy and chic, and when it has a matte finish, it’s the cream of the crop! Talk about refined and sophisticated! I love this reddish taupe-brown colour for pulling together everything from more dramatic, smokey eye looks to when I’m hardly wearing any makeup. It’s the king pin of my makeup collection right now, pretty to look at, on and off my lips and it doesn’t cost a fortune…it’s a win, win! 🙂
Lipstick Número Tres: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine in #8: Pink in Confidence 🎀 ($39 CAD, available at Hudson’s Bay & Nordstrom)
A long-standing favourite in my lipstick collection, YSL’s Pink in Confidence steals the show in my makeup game each and every time that I wear it. Its smooth, ultra hydrating and pleasantly glossy appearance ramps this lovely subtle nude-pink shade up a notch, and let’s not even discuss the wonderful fruity smell or the glorious packaging. For some strange reason, the colour has been discontinued from the range available at Sephora, but not to worry, it’s still available at beauty counters at Hudson’s Bay and Nordstrom for your pink-lip-loving pleasure! Seriously, check this shade out, you won’t regret it. Just don’t blame me for your undeniable need to own every Rouge Volupté Shine available when you do, though! 😉
Lipstick Número Cuatro: MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Process Magenta 💄($19.50 CAD, available at MAC)*
I bet you didn’t see a bright pink lip liner coming in this round-up, did you!? Sometimes, it’s nice to be different, and while the whole beauty world has got everyone spinning over the latest and greatest crimson, violet and “ox-blood” shades, I’ll tell you, it’s nice to be the one to every once and a while break the mould with a classic hot pink. The Chromagraphic pencils from MAC are great; pencils that are soft on the skin, smooth, yet somehow sharp, defined and easy to use are definitely up my makeup alley, and when you throw in the fact that these pencils are multi-purpose, it makes it all the better. Don’t try to use this particular shade in the line-up on your eyes, though, that’s the one place it’s banned (it can cause irritaiton and staining — eek, not good!)! On the lips, however, Process Magenta is a lovely true-to-fashion bright, hot, in-your-face pink that’ll remain on your lips for hours on end, perfect for the days you want to make a statement or match the kickin’ pair of heels you just got your hands on. 😉
Lipstick Número Cinco: Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in #215: Standout 💜 (~$11 CAD, available at most drugstores)
Last, but certainly not least in the lipstick line is Revlon’s Standout, which is a remarkable one by half. Not only does it pack enough pigmentation to cover a full application to your lips in one, quick swipe, but it’s such a rich, deep and beautiful colour! This regal shade is not one for the weak of heart, or, in other words, if you’ve never dabbled in the bold lip wearing arts, I wouldn’t recommend this be your first swing at the rodeo. However, for all the purple lovers, statement makers, fall lip enthusiasts and everything in between, this jumbo lip pencil is for you. Plus, as if it could get any better, this luscious lip balm is hydrating and therefore comfortable to wear, and it’s affordable! Woohoo, three cheers for Standout! 😀
Well, there you go, the current lip line-up! I’ve been hardcore crushing on these colours for the last little while and I can see them being used a whole lot in October. So, tell me, what are some of your current must-haves for the lips!? Are you already busting out the crimsons and burgundy shades, or are you slowly easing into the deep, rich colours?
You know what to do! ↓↓↓↓
Until next time,
Siobhan ♥
*Special thanks to my friend Caitlyn for buying the Too Faced lipstick for me for my birthday this year, and to Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog for providing the MAC lip pencil as a prize as part of a giveaway I won early last year. Y’all are the best, I’m eternally grateful!! ♥♥♥
