As the first day of spring approaches (Friday, YAY!), snow and ice melt and flowers and trees show the first signs of life. It’s an exciting time, and not just in the outdoor world. It’s a really great time of year for beauty as well, because you can push the predefined “seasonal” boundaires and take advantage of the best of both winter and spring beauty essentials. Of course, as a red lipstick lover, I’m always finding ways to apply this transitional rule to my lip makeup (I can’t help it, can I!?). Let’s take a closer look at some of my favourite reds for this time of year, shall we?
I’ve long been a fan of Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butter in #35: Candy Apple, and with its creamy, easy to apply, buildable texture, it’s been a great choice lately for my flaky, chapped lips after a long, long winter. I love this shade of red, too, it’s more of a fire engine red, with strong orange undertones, which flatters most complexions and works really well with neutral, matte eyeshadows (very avant garde). Plus, this shade of red seems to be a Spring 2015 beauty trend, and you know how I love to keep up on my trends. 🙂
I’ve owned MAC’s Casual Colour for Lips & Cheeks in Keep It Casual for years and, as you can see from the photo above, I’ve barely made a dent in it! It’s an interesting red, it’s a unique muted raspberry, almost wine colour that looks really chic when paired with lighter neutral clothes like grey or white (colours we can finally start incorporating into our wardrobes again, YAY!). The best part is, this looks just as lovely on the cheeks as it does on the lips, as it gives a gorgeous natural flush. Even better, two quick dabs of the finger and I’m set for application to my lips or my cheeks (though a lip brush does provide smoother and more even application). I’m all aboard for this totally fuss-free, casual colour that is perfect for daytime (and will last you for, like, ever), and though this particular product was limited edition with a MAC collection a few years ago, they re-release these every couple of years. If you can’t get your hands on this exact shade, no worries, you can pick up similar shades here or here.
You can probably tell by the giant grin as I wear the next shade, Tarte’s Glamazon Pure Performance 12 Hour Lipstick in Wild, that it’s one of my favourite red lipsticks of all time. I just love how creamy it is and how it glides onto my lips with ease, but that it also has a whopping amount of impact and pigmentation and has incredible staying power. I’ve talked about this ultra flattering shade before, so I won’t drone on and on, but this is a nice, subtle medium-deep shade that works really well with practically every makeup look and outfit and is just lovely to use as we transition out of winter. Love it!
The final red colour is another one of my favourites, Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso. Another bright, bold, fire engine red, this has got to be the one lip stain that I have that I actually like to wear. It has a smooth, matte finish but never dries out my lips and the beautiful colour is quite the showstopper. Again, I’ve reviewed this product in more detail on a separate occasion, so I won’t go on too much, but this product is worth its weight in gold and more. Not only will you turn heads and be on trend this season if you decide to wear this colour, but your confidence will rise and you’ll feel like a million bucks. And that my friends, is how I define a must-have red, and it just happens to be the perfect shade to brighten up the dreary almost-spring days!! 🙂
So, tell me, would you wear any of these shades? What colours do you wear to transition you from season to season?
Much love,
S♥
