Happy hump day everyone! Here’s hoping you have a lovely day! 🙂
I’m back for another Winter Lip Favourites post, and it seemed, just based on stats, that you really enjoyed the first instalment of this little mini-series, my must-have lip care products for the winter season! I’m so glad! Today, I’ll be featuring what comes after the lip care, my favourite more subtle, more daytime-appropriate lip products for the season.

L-R: Makeup Forever Lab Shine in S2, Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie, MAC Pro Longwear Lip Creme in Red Dwarf, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic, MAC Lipstick in Captive, NARS Lip Gloss in Bad Education, Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Liner in Icon
The “Everydayers”
Now that I’ve gone into detail sharing what my go-to lip care essentials are for the winter season, I can get talking about my favourite colours and shades for daytime! Don’t get me wrong, I love wearing these colours at any time of day, but they are often most used in the daytime, like when I’m running errands, heading off to work or going to school. I’m lucky, because my complexion allows me to get away with wearing deep colours in the daytime without looking overdone, plus I automatically gravitate towards them because I love the way they look. However, if some of these colours seem a little strong for you or if you think that people would worry about you if you stepped outside your door wearing a deep colour, you can always tone the colour down by applying balm immediately before you apply your lip product, you can dot the product on instead of swiping, or, finally, you can wear a neutral or clear lip gloss over top to mute the colour a bit. Just a friendly tip from me to you! 🙂 Okay, let’s get to it!
Makeup Forever Lab Shine in S2: The lightest shade of the bunch, this lip gloss is super versatile. I mean it, you can wear it over any colour in the freakin’ lipstick rainbow, or on its own, and your lips will instantly look more vivacious and brilliant. It’s described as a “light pearly-beige” but against my lips, it’s basically transparent. However, what makes this gloss special is the extraordinary shimmer, it’s so pretty, but is only completely visible when you stand directly under light. Give this a chance, you won’t be disappointed!
Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie: I find it pretty funny, and also incredible, that since Revlon came out with their popular lip butter range, no drugstore brand has been able to truly duplicate its awesomeness. The lip butters are just fantastic, super hydrating, creamy, glossy and very natural looking. This shade, is by far the most worn in my lip butter family, and considering that I have almost all the shades, that says a lot. It’s just the perfect plummy-pink colour that looks good with both smokey, dramatic eyes and bare eyes with just a single swipe of mascara. Love, love, love this one; it’s one that I would gladly giveaway to every citizen of the world if I could. Beautiful!
MAC Pro Longwear Lip Creme in Red Dwarf: Though I first purchased this limited edition shade just over four years ago, it’s still one that I reach for at least once a week. Don’t be fooled by the name, though, there’s barely any red to be seen here! This is literally what I think of when people describe things as “raspberry,” because, though on sight it doesn’t resemble a raspberry in colour at all, it translates into a perfect cool-toned deepish berry colour on my lips, being deep enough to stand out, but light enough to wear for multiple occasions. Oh, and it’s creamy, pigmented formula doesn’t budge at all on my lips for at least 4-6 hours.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic: If you aren’t really a fan of the red lip or if you’re just testing the red lip waters, this is the red for you. It’s weird, because it’s definitely pigmented, delivering a super pretty cherry red colour straight to your lips, but it’s also sheer and light on your lips. In my opinion, its glossy finish definitely gives more of a daytime look than an “I’m trying to impress my first date” one, but that’s the beauty of red lipstick, you can define your own parameters! Furthermore, if you want a product that you can apply at 9 am and not even think about until like, 7 pm, this is the one! The first time I wore this, I wore it out to a games night with friends, which I was out at for about 4 hours, came back, washed my makeup off, slept for 7 hours and when I woke up there were still remnants of colour on my lips! This one is tried and true, and stain it does indeed! 🙂
MAC Lipstick in Captive: Once my ultimate favourite berry shade, this lipstick, with it’s warm, deep browny-plum tones, is beautiful on all complexions. It’s creamy, easy to apply and even has a hint of a barely-there sheen, that is only visible when you stand in certain lights. It’s such a lovely colour, I can understand how it would captivate one and all. 😉
NARS Lip Gloss in Bad Education: Unfortunately, this lip gloss, or technically the shade, has been discontinued, which is such a shame because I can’t tell you how often I reach for it! It’s the perfect crimson colour, it’s super glossy and never dries out my lips. And can we talk about the stellar name!? I actually have quite a good education under my belt thus far, haha, but I always feel slightly badass when I apply this. Goodbye sweet, wholesome Sandy…hello, end-of-Grease, sleek, sexy and fiery Sandy! 😉
Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Liner in Icon: This lip liner is truly awesome in every way; it’s super long-wearing, non-drying and very pigmented. Plus, it has a cool brush on the other end so that you can blend out the liner and/or apply another lip product seamlessly. It’s an expensive one, but it’s worth it, so much so that I can only think of two occasions in the last couple of months on which I wore a red lip without this underneath, and you know how much I love my red lips. It’s a keeper, for sure!
Anytime I wear one of these products on my lips out to run errands or to school or just hang out with friends, I get at least one compliment. They are so eye-catching, but they never look too intense or in-your-face, which I love. You can be gauranteed that you’ll leave an impression with one of these on your lips, that’s for sure! You’ve heard of the girl with the dragon tattoo? Well, just call us the girls with the pretty lips. 😉 ♥
That’s all for today, folks! Be sure to come back tomorrow for the final chapter, the bold lip products. And trust me, you don’t want to miss these, they’re so pretty, you’ll hardly be able to look away!
Take care my loves!
Much love,
S♥
